Have you recently had a child? If so, hooray! There are a few things you should learn about if you hope to keep your newborn’s teeth growing appropriately. In this post, we go over some of the things you can do to shield your little one’s dental health with only a few small steps. If you have any cause for concern regarding your child’s teeth, feel free to call us to set up an exam by calling 770.592.7000.

Newborns cry: them’s the breaks. However, if you prefer to comfort your baby with a binky, don’t put it in your mouth before giving it to them. Additionally, don’t share a spoon with your infant either. The bacteria that can be spread via spit could be too difficult for your baby’s oral cavity to deal with, and any transfer of spit might result in tooth breakdown for your child.

When your baby is finished with feeding, ensure that you wipe down their gums with a washcloth or an oral wipe for babies. Just like your teeth, your child’s baby teeth will be at risk from leftover food debris and the acids that come with them.

Finally, don’t forget to gently brush your child’s teeth with a child’s toothbrush. If you would prefer to use fluoridated toothpaste on your child’s toothbrush before their second birthday, please talk with us about it to see if this would be proper.
