Your dentist, Dr. Christine Lee, and our friendly Simple Smiles Restorative & Cosmetic Dentistry team want you to have the best and most successful dental experience possible, which is why we encourage you to take proper care of your oral health following wisdom tooth removal in Woodstock, Georgia.

There are two complications that can occur during or after wisdom tooth removal, and those complications are:

Dry socket: Dry socket is a common complication that occurs when the blood clot is dislodged from the bone socket or when the blood clot refuses to form in the first place. When this happens, you will experience severe discomfort and you will also smell a foul oral odor. This typically occurs after three to four days following tooth extraction, and your dentist can treat it with oral medication.

Paresthesia: Paresthesia is a rarer complication that occurs when the oral nerves are damaged or bruised during the tooth extraction process. When this happens, the tongue, lips, or chin becomes numb, which can last for days, weeks, or even months.

If you follow our instructions and take proper care of your oral health, then your chances of experiencing these complications are reduced. So, to learn more about how to avoid these complications or how to treat them, we encourage you to call our office at 770.592.7000 and talk to a member of our dental team. We are here to assist you in any way we can!
